Furusato is a Japanese ryokan (inn) in Fukuji Onsen, Okuhida. My husband is the third-generation owner. It has always been a family inn. The scenery is really old-fashioned. I would say it is just the original scenery that a Japanese people would imagine for a mountain village. The building itself is from the Edo period and it is built following the tradition of Hida old folk houses.

I am from Mie prefecture and I came here after getting married with my husband. Okuhida has the beautiful mountain landscapes and hot springs. Especially, I like to go to the hot spring right after climbing the mountain. On that regard, I think Okuhida is the best.

We want you to spend your time as if you came to your grandma's house, feel the atmosphere. It's not a big inn, but the most important thing to us is to have our guests feel at home.

There is a mountain behind Fukuji Onsen and it is called Fukujiyama. I often recommend it. Once, one of our guests stayed for 2 nights and I recommended him to climb Fukujiyama. Since it was his birthday, I ended up climbing with him. Actually, in Mt. Fukuchi you can still find fossils. I'm not very familiar with it, but the customer was knowledgeable and we had a good time talking about fossils. He was also extremely pleased with the view of the alps.

Climbing Mt. Fukujiyama takes 3 to 4 hours for a round trip. There is a trekking course, but it's not difficult. The view is very good while you climb. You can see the ridgeline of the Alps and this course is not so crowded so you can spend some quality time by yourself.

𝟓. The good points and the difficulty of this job

It is very good to meet various people both from Japan and overseas. I often like to listen to their stories about their countries. I speak English, so I like to interact with my guests.

The hard part is the maintenance of the building. The number of craftsmen able to do it is decreasing, so actually finding people able to do it is difficult and it costs a lot of money.

After all, I like Mt. Fukujiyama the most. It is beautiful and I actually met my husband over there. It's a special place to me.

We are taking strict measures. Along with the standard measures we have out guests to wash their hands with a disinfectant one by one before sitting to have a meal. We always carry a disinfectant kit and disinfect at regular intervals. We always split large number groups during meals and when they enter the hot springs.
