In case of illness or injury during your stay in Takayama:
1. Purchase of medicines
・At pharmacies and drugstores, you can purchase Over The Counter(OTC) medicines such as cold remedies, pain relievers, compresses, eye drops, antihistamines, etc.
・Prescriptions issued abroad cannot be used in Japan.
・Some medicines you can buy OTC in your country may need doctor prescription in Japan, e.g.antibiotics.
2.When a visit to a medical institution is necessary
・If you are forced to seek medical treatment due to illness or injury, .please consult with the staff of the accommodation facility where you are staying
The accommodation staff will confirm which hospitals are available.
Payment for Medical Facility Consultations
・At least 60,000 yen will be required in medical consultation fees at the hospitals (Japanese Red Cross Takayama Hospital or Kumiai Kosei Hospital).At least 60,000 yen will be required

・About insurance
Even if you have travel insurance, you must pay at the hospital. If you need to reclaim costs, .please deal directly with your insurer after making the payment
3. Use of ambulances
・Ambulances are .only available for critical illnesses or serious injuries
・Ambulances are not available for return from hospital, so you must make your own transport arrangements.
・If you need to call an ambulance, please ask the nearest Japanese person or a member of staff at your accommodation.
