Introducing Two Types of Local Government-licensed Guide Interpreters

Takayama is an international tourist city which many overseas tourists visit each year.
In order for tourists to tour the city much more easily, Takayama has introduced two types of area-specific locally certified guides (Chiiki Tsūyaku An’nai-shi): “Takayama City Center Guides” and “Hida Region Guides” (Takayama City, Hida City, Gero City and Shirakawa Village).

While Tsūyaku An’nai-shi are those who have acquired a national certification to conduct tour guide services in Japan and provide their services in any location nationwide, Chiiki Tsūyaku An’nai-shi are those who conduct area-specific tour guide services.

The “Takayama City Center Chiiki Tsūyaku An’nai-shi” are those who conduct their services in the central business district of Takayama City. They give information about various sites, such as Sanmachi Street and Takayama Jinya (Government House), and teach tourists about local products. Visitors will greatly benefit from learning about the attractions in Takayama City Center from these local guides.

In 2016, Takayama City initiated the registration of Hida Region Chiki Tsūyaku An’nai-shi. These guides will show you the entire city of Takayama, as well as the world-famous heritage site Shirakawa Village with its Gassho-style houses, Hida City with its beautiful Seto River and white-walled storehouse street, and Gero City with its Gero Onsen Hot Springs (one of the three most famous hot springs in Japan).

Tourists are strongly encouraged to find a guide who can help make their travel experiences more rewarding.
