Fri 8 December – Sun 10 December

Shimenawa and Shimekazari are traditional decorations for the New Year’s celebration. They are displayed at shrines, torii gates and houses. At Hida Folk Village approximately 300 bundles of straw from Kurumada of Hida no Sato are used to make these decorations. Visitors are welcome to see how we make them.
It is especially worth seeing the making of a large Shimenawa for a tori gate of the Takumi shrine. It requires four people to complete it combining 50 shimenawa in different sizes.
