Located at almost the exact center of Japan, Hida-Takayama is blessed with a rich, natural beauty. Surrounded by scenic mountains, this historical town retains distinct traces of its past as a castle town. Visitors to Takayama are sure to immerse themselves in traditional culture, while soaking up the spirit of this ancient city.

The trip from Shinjuku Station on the JR Limited Express train takes two hours and 50 minutes. An extremely convenient option is the Limited Express bus from Matsumoto to Takayama.
JR East Pass holders may purchase Matsumoto to Takayama round trip bus tickets for ¥2,500, less than half the regular price.
